The Fall/Winter 2016 Lookbook Photoshoot took place at the Chicago Fashion Incubator on a Saturday morning. The simple, recently renovated conference room was a perfect set for us as most of our clothing & supplies were already present, save for the special equipment brought the photographer Carissa Lancaster and her business partner Le Wang, all the way from Indianapolis, where Kliq Studio is based. This duo always seems to be busy travelling thoughout the US doing test shoots & creative editorials with up-and-coming models. Working with them on my first VARYFORM lookbook shoot was a very special experience as they are also old friends and collaborators who I truly admire and respect.
Before we could start to shoot, we had to make a little transformation happen ot prepare the set. As the room is located on the uppermost corner of the building, we closed the blinds on the windows, which covered TWO whole walls, to avoid stripes of light being cast on the model. We also turned off the harsh overhead light and relied solely on two ambiance lights set up by Le & Carissa. This helped us achieve a moody & romantic glow that perfectly complemented the shiny silks and soft wools of the collection.
As Le & Carissa set up the lights and backdrop, I reviewed the look combinations with Styling Assistants Victoria Guir & Jennifer Servin, who then steamed, organized, and accessorized each piece in the collection.
By 9:30am, we were prepared to shoot!
Right away, our professional model Mary Pierce was able to bring out the best in each look by trying a variety of strong, yet elegant, poses...in between some dance moves and silly moments. Our photographer Carissa provided super clear direction as needed and we were moving through looks very quickly.
After we cycled through each top with different pant and skirt combinations, we paused for a 15 minute makeup update. Andie painted on a bolder lip and a smokey eye before applying a quick coat of crimson nail polish. As the polish dried, she whipped up Mary's hair into a slick topknot. Now, we were ready for the dresses & coat...
And as expected, one piece styles were the fastest to shoot! Just a zip & a little accessory change and we got the shots we needed of my Sheath Dress, Mini Deco Dress and my Silk/Wool Wrap Coat within about 10 minutes. Makes me appreciate the simplicity of a dress!
By noon, it was a wrap! It was a truly smooth experience that can't be taken for granted, all thanks to a talented team and careful planning. Thank you: Carissa Lancaster, Le Wang, Mary Pierce, Andie Peirce, Victoria Guir & Jennifer Servin x 10000.
The collection will be going into production late Spring/Summer so if you or anyone you know might be interested in pre-ordering to reserve your size & colors or want to see the samples in person, reach out to me in the comments or contact page.
